The Happy News is...... Be your own best friend. If you only make one New Years Resolution resolve to be your own best friend in 2008. Before you can enjoy all the benefits of friendship you need to know how to be a friend to yourself. Many of us forget this important principle... we put ourselves through things that we would never do to our friends. We put ourselves down, we load ourselves up with guilt and shame. When we're already down instead of reaching out to lift ourselves up we give ourselves a kick! We expect ourselves to be perfect in every way and do not cut ourselves any slack when we don't always measure up to that unattainable standard. Come on, friends, we treat our dogs (and kitties) better than that. So what are we going to do in 2008? Take care of ourselves! Have realistic expectations for ourselves! Take time for the things we need to be healthy and happy and feel good about ourselves and our lives. Eat properly, get enough sleep, stay hydrated, don't take on more than is humanly possible, breathe deeply, take naps, and bubble baths, have fun, be creative, nourish your spirit, get in touch with nature (even if its only in your backyard), stretch your body and your mind. Do the things that make you feel alive and at peace with yourself in the world. Cultivate a positive attitude and feelings of gratitude and abundance. Then you'll be ready to surround yourself with friends and family and share with them the fabulous person you are and allow them to express their “fabulousNESS” too!!!
