believe in the concept of one best friend and then
I started to become a woman. I found out that if you
allow your heart to open up,God would show you the
best in many friends. One friend is needed when
you're going through things with your man. Another
friend is needed when you're going through things with
your mom. Another will sit beside you in the bleachers
as you delight in your children and their activities.
Another when you want to shop,share, heal, hurt, joke,
or just be. One friend will say, 'Let's cry together,'
another, 'Let's fight together,' another, 'Let's walk
away together.'One friend willmeet your spiritual need,
another your shoe fetish,another your love for movies,
another will be with you in your season of confusion,
another will be your clarifier,another the wind beneath
your wings. But whatever their assignment in your life,
on whatever the occasion,on whatever the day, or wherever
you need them to meet you with their gym shoes on and
hair pulled back,or to hold you back from making a
complete fool of yourself...those are your best friends.
It may all be wrapped up in one woman, but for many, it's
wrapped up in several..one from 7th grade,one from high
school,several from the college years,a couple from old
jobs,on some days your mother,on some days your neighbor,
on others, your sisters,and on some days, your daughters.
So whether they've been your friend for 20 minutes or
20 years,AND ONLY IF YOU'D LIKE TO,pass this on to the women that God has placed in your life to make a
difference.”
This was another email forward from my sister and we don't know who wrote it but the sentiments
are ones that we share so wanted to pass it along. You can do the same.

The Happy News is....Staying hydrated not only involves drinking plenty of water but playing in water too. I received this email from my sister Peggy who is sharing quotations from her “Calendar for Women Who Do Too Much” . Today's quote was about “Alone Time” and stated the following: “Women who do too much do it more efficiently, more creatively and better when they take two or three hours completely for themselves once a month. This month, find a way to be in water. Swim, soak in a tub, take a long shower, soak your feet , or even wash dishes by hand – slowly. Let it be known that interruptions are not allowed during these precious times.” This reminds us to be our own best friend. And to be honest if I only had 2 or 3 hours a month to myself... I think I might be nuttier than I am. (but I remember times when “the girls” were babies, that I was lucky to get 5 minutes alone to use the bathroom and I was pretty crazy then. Mercifully I don't remember much about “me” from those days!) It's an individual thing –how much alone time a person needs but for me 2-3 hours a week is more like it. If you are not getting the “alone time” you need to maintain your sanity – maybe a friend can help you set up a plan to share child care or just hold each other accountable for scheduling your weekly/monthly alone time and keeping to your schedule. The Happy News is...... you can never have too many friends and friends come in many types. I'll bet that you have a few friendships that you've had for many years and consider these your best friends because they know you best. But don't short change the value of other kinds of friends in your life. Be on the look out for “instant” friends; someone you meet unexpectedly and become fast friends, or neighbor friends, phone friends, on line friends, sibling friends, couple friends, friends of the opposite sex, and elder friends. All can bring fun, zest, wisdom and warmth into your life. You can have friends that you just do certain activities with. I have stamping friends, scrap booking friends, jewelery-making friends, coffee club friends, extended family friends, home school friends, book club friends and of course Avon friends.

Two other types of friends also deserve special mention. Our animal friends add enjoyment to our days and lengthen our lifespan. Our household now includes Pebbles the neurotic Labrador; Alfie, the hamster and Jack the Blue Beta. Jack is my pet and I enjoy our conversation each morning when I feed him. Many of us may also consider Books as friends. Books can teach us a lot about friendship and help us learn to be better friends to ourselves and others. Books are steadfast and loyal friends, always ready to get together. It would be nice to have all your favorite book friends close around you but probably not practical if you are like me and want to read them all. So we can visit book friends new and old at bookstores and libraries. Giving books to friends as gifts lets us share other worlds and creates another connection between us. Let's make our list of friends long and deep and wide.

The Happy News is...... Be your own best friend. If you only make one New Years Resolution resolve to be your own best friend in 2008. Before you can enjoy all the benefits of friendship you need to know how to be a friend to yourself. Many of us forget this important principle... we put ourselves through things that we would never do to our friends. We put ourselves down, we load ourselves up with guilt and shame. When we're already down instead of reaching out to lift ourselves up we give ourselves a kick! We expect ourselves to be perfect in every way and do not cut ourselves any slack when we don't always measure up to that unattainable standard. Come on, friends, we treat our dogs (and kitties) better than that. So what are we going to do in 2008? Take care of ourselves! Have realistic expectations for ourselves! Take time for the things we need to be healthy and happy and feel good about ourselves and our lives. Eat properly, get enough sleep, stay hydrated, don't take on more than is humanly possible, breathe deeply, take naps, and bubble baths, have fun, be creative, nourish your spirit, get in touch with nature (even if its only in your backyard), stretch your body and your mind. Do the things that make you feel alive and at peace with yourself in the world. Cultivate a positive attitude and feelings of gratitude and abundance. Then you'll be ready to surround yourself with friends and family and share with them the fabulous person you are and allow them to express their “fabulousNESS” too!!!

The Happy News Vol.2 Issue 14

The Happy News is...... winding down for the year 2007. I've been thinking about themes for the Happy News in 2008 and one of my greatest sources of happiness this past year has been my friends. Friends bring so much more of the good stuff into my life. I am filled with gratitude that I have been able to have many good times with friends in 2007. Because of my wide and varied interests I have made many new friends this past year too, at Church, at coffee club, craft get-togethers, my d.d.'s (dear daughter) home-school group, my entrepreneur group, members of my Avon team (including adoptees), other Avon Representatives and my many, many Avon Friends (who just happen to be customers too). I written about friends before in The Happy News because having good friends enhances happiness and life satisfaction and recently I purchased a new SARK book called the “Fabulous Friendship Festival” and I am going to follow that theme for at least the first half of 2008.

Before I close this edition of The Happy News I want to remind all my dear readers (friends) of The Happy News of the “reason for the season”; the birth of the Baby in Bethlehem who 33 years later “laid down His life for his friends” (you and me) (John 15:13-15)so that we all might have life and have it more abundantly. (John 10:10). That is my Christmas prayer and heart's desire for the New Year..... abundance of life in 2008 for all of us.

The Happy News is ......Choose a Mascot. A mascot is anything that represents the character and spirit of a unit. It becomes a tangible symbol of the affection one has for the unit itself. Every home, office, classroom or team should have one. Even when we fail, our mascot is there to remind us that we stand for something bigger than our failure. I am so proud to share “the happy news” that my group of business partners is officially an Avon Unit and I am the Unit Leader. I have chosen for our mascot “The Bee”. Bees have lots of attributes that I admire. They are good communicators and they are very industrious. They work primarily in the area of their talent and let other work in theirs. Their work not only benefits themselves and their hive but also ripples out to benefit the plant and animal kingdoms through pollination. And amazingly enough scientists have proven that aerodynamically speaking bees should not be able to fly but they do! I really like that because many people are always ready to tell us that what we want to accomplish is impossible but if we have Faith and persistence we can achieve more than we can imagine.
