The Happy News is...... you can never have too many friends and friends come in many types. I'll bet that you have a few friendships that you've had for many years and consider these your best friends because they know you best. But don't short change the value of other kinds of friends in your life. Be on the look out for “instant” friends; someone you meet unexpectedly and become fast friends, or neighbor friends, phone friends, on line friends, sibling friends, couple friends, friends of the opposite sex, and elder friends. All can bring fun, zest, wisdom and warmth into your life. You can have friends that you just do certain activities with. I have stamping friends, scrap booking friends, jewelery-making friends, coffee club friends, extended family friends, home school friends, book club friends and of course Avon friends.
Two other types of friends also deserve special mention. Our animal friends add enjoyment to our days and lengthen our lifespan. Our household now includes Pebbles the neurotic Labrador; Alfie, the hamster and Jack the Blue Beta. Jack is my pet and I enjoy our conversation each morning when I feed him. Many of us may also consider Books as friends. Books can teach us a lot about friendship and help us learn to be better friends to ourselves and others. Books are steadfast and loyal friends, always ready to get together. It would be nice to have all your favorite book friends close around you but probably not practical if you are like me and want to read them all. So we can visit book friends new and old at bookstores and libraries. Giving books to friends as gifts lets us share other worlds and creates another connection between us. Let's make our list of friends long and deep and wide.
