Happy Birthday USA!!!
Lee and I went out for a day of Mother-Daughter bonding today. We both got hair cuts at EQ on Broadway in C. Bluffs and then much to Bob's chagrin went to Claire's at the Mall and got a second set of earrings pierced into our ear lobes!! At both places we were served by very capable young women. Erica at EQ is only 17 but she was very competent, personable and fun! I met her on my anniversary at Red Lobster where she was the hostess.(hardworking and ambitious too!) I was impressed with her then because she was quick, energetic and had initiative. Today while I was getting my hair cut I found out that she was homeschooled. (This will have a point and it will have to do with Independence Day). That explained a lot to me as she had many of the same characteristics that I see in my own and other homeschooled children. Independent, self-motivated, confident, competent, creative, energetic, goal-oriented, happy.....not the typical sulking, surly, bored teenager.
On the way home from our excursion we heard an interview on the radio in which the gal was talking about getting choked up at sporting events when she heard the national anthem. (I do too!) With all the negativity flying around about the election , the economy , the war in Iraq , the high price of gas and health care.... well, it's hard to keep feeling good about life in the old U.S. of A. So that got me thinking about how keep a positive attitude about my country in today's negative climate. One of the quickest ways to turn a negative attitude around is through gratitude. I hope you will join me this week in making a list of all the things you have to be grateful for because you are a citizen of The United States of America. On the top of my list is that we have the right to homeschool our children and that no matter what our educational background we have libraries and other educational resources so that at any age we can learn anything we want. Knowledge is potential power----It only becomes power when you use it!
Let me know what's on your gratitude list and you can take 15% off any Red, White & Blue items in C-15 , C-14 or C-13.
Happy Heroes: Raymond and Dorothy Moore- Pioneers in homeschooling back in the '70's when it was illegal in some states. They paved the way so we can educate our children in the way that seemed best to us. Their research and common sense validated my own philosophy of child rearing and education when I was just starting my Homeschool Journey. It is an educational experience for the parents as much as it is for the children, maybe more so.

Below is the Moore Formula that served us well in our HomeSchool.
THE FORMULA. 1) Study from a few minutes to several hours a day, depending on the child's maturity. 2) Manual work at least as much as study. 3) Home and/or community service an hour or so a day. Focus on kids' interests and needs; be an example in consistency, curiosity, and patience. Live with them! If you are loving and can read, write, count, and speak clearly, you are a master teacher.

Product Reviews
If you can't afford the Clinical Micro-dermabrasion of the Retexturizing Peel try the new Micro-Exfoliating Cleansing Cushions pg72. One side of the pad exfoliates and the other side cleans and conditions. I liked them a lot. A quick and easy facial ... used a couple times a week will keep your skin clear and bright and a box can last about 2 months. Follow with a good night time moisturizer (ask me and I'll help you pick one) and for summer a day time one with a good SPF. I'm still using the Hydra-Radiance Continuous Glow Daily Moisturizer because it works well with the Mineral Makeup or the Beyond Color Mousse Foundation that I like to use. OR
No foundation at all.
