The Happy News is... We still have a month of spring left!!! Most of us think that summer starts when school
lets out! But according to the calendar the first day of summer is June 21st. So we have 30 more days to enjoy
the spring of 2008! Which in my humble opinion has been the best spring we've had in a long time. It's been
mild and gradual with enough rain to get things growing and blooming but not bad storms to tear things
up. Last week we worked in our yard quite a bit. I planted annuals in the front just some petunias and
geraniums but it keeps the color going now that the tulips have gone and until the other perennials start to
bloom. Our poppies are blooming and a plant I brought up from my Mom's back door garden that we called
spiderwort but I'm not sure that's what it is. I had brought some in for Mom from a roadside ditch. It has
grown more robust in a cultivated setting and very pretty I think. We have rose buds coming on and my
hollyhocks are just about ready to bust out any minute. I also have lavender by the front walk and chocolate
mint as ground cover so our garden has some sweet smells to enjoy too. Bob has really helped make my
gardening easier by putting down lots of wood chip mulch keeps the weeds down and almost eliminates that
chore! I also planted my big hanging basket with annuals and the one on the porch with a blue flowering
vine. Lee planted the rest of the outdoor pots with seeds so we will have some things to tend and watch
grow throughout the summer. I was most anxious about the butterfly bush that I planted last year. It
seemed like it was never going to start growing and I was afraid that it didn't survive the winter. But at long
last it has started to grow and I'm thrilled! If you detect some passion in my writing about my garden you would
be right. You just can't take the “country” out of the girl. I still love digging around in the dirt and growing things .
Thanks , Dad for instilling that love of the land in me. I'm happy that I have passed this happy trait on to my
girls too. Lee has her own flower corner of the back yard and Jill is more of a cooks gardener. Her strawberry
bed that she planted last year is just loaded with blooms soon to be berries-- Can't wait! So Dear Readers, find
something in nature to enjoy in the last month of spring; plant some flowers, sit out doors and watch the
birds, take a walk and enjoy the plants in your neighborhood, blow bubbles,visit the Farmers Market or your
favorite plant nursery (Muhalls, maybe),breath deeply and be thankful for all things “spring”. You can see some

The Happy News is... I celebrated my 21st wedding anniversary on Friday
May 9th. Time really flies....it just doesn't seem that long but I look at
my daughter going on 20 and 16 and I know it's true. It also hits home
how many years have gone by when I look at the wedding picture that
hangs in my bedroom. Aside from the extra weight that I carry now I
don't think I look that much different. Bob on the other hand has gone
from looking like a scrawny teenager (at age 30 when we married) to a

I don't have any words of wisdom about staying together longer than 67% of
married couples. We just made a commitment to each other that was more
important to us than almost everything else in our lives. We have our ups and
downs just like everybody. But when the chips are down I know Bob is there for
me and I'm pretty sure that he feels the same about me. Though we drive each
other crazy at times we still think that the other one is “THE ONE” just the same
as we did 21 years ago when we looked at each other onabout the 3rd date
and said, “This is it!”. Ask me again in a few years when the nest is empty but
I think I'll still say,”yep, he's the one!”

In the past two weeks I've had several people ask me how I keep my skin so bright and healthy looking.
Besides drinking plenty of water and getting enough sleep and taking vitamin C. I recommend a skin cleanser that you like-- anything but soap. Right now I'm using the Avon Completely Clean with the anti-aging Thermal Cleanser. Other people in my household like the Anew RetroActive 2 in 1 Cleanser or the MARK “That's Deep” cleanser. I use one of our resurfacing products periodically either the Anew Advanced Retexturizing Peel or the Micro-Dermabrasion System. To get dull skin back in shape I use the Luminosity Skin Brightener for my a.m. Moisturizer. This really helped me a couple years ago when I was living in an apartment with dry air. Right now for my daytime moisturizer I'm using the Hyrdaradiance Continuous Glow Daily Moisturizer. I really like this because it has a slight tint to it and evens out your skin tone so I can get away with no makeup if I feel like it! For night time moisturizer I'm using the liiv botanicals Vital Night Moisturizer. ( I'm testing this as a new Avon product and I like it a lot.) I've tried most of the Avon Moisturizers with good results so I think the most important thing is just to use a night time moisturizer). I also like the Anew Photo-Radiance Treatment to fade 2 discolorations on my face, acquired from childbearing, Happy Mother's Day!) and it's working . It would probably go faster if I remembered to use it both a.m. and p.m. One other skin care product that I like because you can see overnight results is Ageless Results Nightly Nutrient Peel. Those are my best practices recommendations. Oh, good genes help too! (Thanks Mom and Dad!)
